COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State point guard Bruce Thornton was named to the preseason All-Big Ten Team after leading the Buckeyes in scoring last year at 15.7 points per game, the conference announced Tuesday.
Thornton, a Milton, Georgia native, led the Buckeyes in scoring, assists at 4.8 apg, steals at 1.2 spg and minutes played at 33.6 mpg coming off an All-Big Ten season. According to Ohio State, his 4.0 assist-to-turnover ratio was second-best in the country.
He became the third player in program history with more than 100 assists and fewer than 50 turnovers in a season.
Thornton is now entering the season with 921 career points through his first two seasons. He also has 260 career assists.
The Buckeyes will take on the University of Cincinnati Bearcats in an exhibition game on Oct. 18 before officially opening the season against Texas on Nov. 4 in Las Vegas.
This season’s home opener is slated for Nov. 11 against Youngstown State.
