Witness recounts what she saw following violent attack outside University District Kroger

The Kroger in University District and surrounding area that is made up of apartments, bars and restaurants is no stranger to violent crime.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Calls to 911 obtained by 10TV detail the frantic moments following a brutal attack near the University District Kroger on Friday.

The store manager called 911 while a Kroger security guard administered CPR to 64-year-old Timothy Davis.

A witness to the aftermath spoke with 10TV on Monday. She said she stepped off the COTA bus near the Kroger to find Davis lying on the ground bloody and badly beaten.

“I can’t believe that someone would be so enraged to kill someone,” said Lashondra Tinsley. “The security guard told me that someone had walked up with a skateboard, they got into an argument and started beating the crap out of him with the skateboard.”

The Kroger and surrounding area that is made up of apartments, bars and restaurants is no stranger to violent crime. A LexusNexus report shows there have been nearly 70 incidents of violent crimes since 2022.

One of the crimes happened in October 2022. Aniyah Elie, 17, was shot down the street from the Kroger after a fight inside the store. The man formerly accused of killing her was acquitted late last year claiming self-defense.

10TV reached out to Kroger corporate asking if the store would be introducing any more safety measures following Friday’s incident but did not hear back by the time of this publication.

The man accused of killing Davis, Adrian Ashley, 46, is expected to appear in court Tuesday morning.
