Richland County Highway Department worker struck, killed while working

OHIO, USA — A 20-year-old Richland County highway worker was struck and killed by a vehicle while working Wednesday afternoon.

The Ohio State Highway Patrol said Trenton Gallaway, of Lucas, Ohio, was outside of a Highway Department vehicle on Bowman Street/County Highway 215 around 2:20 p.m. when he was struck by an SUV.

According to a release, the driver of the SUV, identified as a 43-year-old woman from Shelby, Ohio, was heading southeast on Bowman Street and attempting to pass another vehicle on the left when she struck Gallaway.

Gallaway died from his injuries at the scene, according to OSHP.

It's unclear if the driver will face any criminal charges. The crash remains under investigation.
