Here are the central Ohio dispensaries that will begin selling recreational marijuana on Tuesday

The announcement was also made ahead of the Sept. 7 deadline outlined in the statute passed by Ohioans last November.

OHIO, USA — The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control announced that it will issue its first set of dual-use certificates to 98 eligible dispensaries across the state on Tuesday.

The certificates will allow the dispensaries to sell medicinal and recreational marijuana in Ohio. The issuance of the certificates does not mean nonmedical marijuana sales will begin immediately for every dispensary. Officials say each dispensary can determine when to start selling them based on factors, such as staffing and stock.

The division formally announced on Monday but confirmed to 10TV on Friday about the recreational marijuana sales beginning the week of Aug. 5.

In November 2023, Ohioans voted to legalize the recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and over. However, nonmedical sales in the state have been on halt as state officials worked through logistics on how to make it operational.

When the application window opened in June for recreational marijuana sales, the DCC received 230 applications to convert medical marijuana licenses to dual-use cannabis licenses. There were an additional 190 applications for 10(B) dispensaries, which are additional dispensary licenses authorized through the recreational marijuana statute.

Legal marijuana purchases will be subject to a 10% tax, with the revenue to be divided between administrative costs, addiction treatment, municipalities with dispensaries, and paying for social equity and jobs programs supporting the cannabis industry itself.

Ohioans will need a government issued ID to present for age verification and you’ll need cash or a debit card to purchase. Right now, Ohioans can purchase 1 ounce at a time.
