COLUMBUS, Ohio โ The Ohio Division of Cannabis Control confirmed Friday it will begin issuing licenses next week to allow dispensaries to sell recreational marijuana.
A spokesperson for the division said that the state intends to issue the first set of dispensary nonmedical licenses on Tuesday after applications opened in June. There wonโt be any sales this weekend.
A formal announcement will be made on Monday.
The news comes after Ohioans voted this past November to legalize the recreational use of marijuana for adults 21 and older.
Non-medical sales in Ohio have been on halt until dispensaries are able to get their dual-use certificate of operation. This would allow the businesses to sell medical and adult-use marijuana.
When the application window opened for recreational marijuana sales, the DCC received 230 applications to convert medical marijuana licenses to dual-use cannabis licenses. There were an additional 190 applications for 10(B) dispensaries, which are additional dispensary licenses authorized through the recreational marijuana statute.
Once dispensaries receive their certificate of operation, the Division of Cannabis Control will update this map showing which dispensaries are open to adult-use customers.
