Obetz man raises concerns over wife's mental health after death of their 2-year-old son

According to documents from the Franklin County Municipal Court, 39-year-old Lemou Cire told detectives she killed her son around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday.

OBETZ, Ohio — A central Ohio community is heartbroken over the tragic death of a 2-year-old boy earlier this week.

According to documents from the Franklin County Municipal Court, 39-year-old Lemou Cire told detectives she killed her son around 11:30 a.m. on Tuesday at a residence on Holstein Drive in Obetz.

Documents say Cire admitted to placing her hand over the mouth and the other hand over the nose of her son, causing him to stop breathing.

While the family tries to understand what happened, Mahamadou Dieng, Cire's husband, is raising concerns over his wife’s mental health.

Dieng said Cire had been battling the effects of diabetes over the past five years which have taken a toll on her physically and mentally.

“The last three to four months things gets really worse, and it affected all her health, all her body, from head to toe,” said Dieng.

In court, a prosecutor claimed Cire had a violent history, which Dieng said was not true.

“My wife is special, so it hurts me when this prosecutor says she has a history of violence,” said Dieng.

Dieng explained that he reached out to law enforcement for help as he could see her mental health declining, but his wife did not accept the help.

“If you have a mental problem, you need help from other people, not you, because mentally you cannot say I need help,” stated Dieng. “She doesn’t need to be in jail, she needs mental assistance, she needs those special institutions."

Dieng said it's been incredibly hard to explain to their other children what happened.

“Everywhere you go, you hear his voice. You hear him running, they all love him,” said Dieng. “We need help. I need my wife as soon as possible. Kids need their mother, I can’t do it by myself."

10TV reached out to the prosecutor and Obetz police to get more information about Cire’s history and are waiting to hear back.
