COLUMBUS, Ohio — The safety and security team at Columbus City Schools is reviewing footage after a fight broke out at Saturday's basketball game at Columbus Africentric Early College PreK-12.
According to the Columbus Division of Police, officers were called to Africentric on a report of an officer in trouble. When they arrived on scene, officers saw people in a fist fight at the entrance of the school.
Police said they had to use pepper spray to break up the fight.
Chris Baker, the director of safety and security at CCS, said that some spectators got into an altercation that began to spill into the court.
Two people directly involved in the fist fight had minor injuries, according to police.
Baker said at every game there is a security team from the district as well as a police officer.
“Everyone who enters, whether it’s a player, official, or any spectator, comes [in] through our front entrance," Baker said. "The procedure is they go through the Evolve weapon detection system to ensure they aren’t bringing in any unwanted items into the facilities."
Baker said right now they are reviewing the footage to see if they need to alter any of their security protocols.
“What we do on the front end is awesome. We will review and see if there is anything we can do better to prevent any incidents in the stands,” he said.
Baker said they are still trying to determine who exactly was involved in the fight. But, he wants to remind people that come to the games to be on their best behavior.
“We hope students and spectators that are coming to the game are coming to watch the games and enjoy the event. Not come to cause other disruptions."
No arrests were made after the fight.
