District: 1 detained after fight breaks out at Columbus high school basketball game

No players were involved or injured.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — One person was detained after a fight broke out during a basketball game at a Columbus high school Saturday night, the district confirmed.

According to Director of Communications Jacqueline Bryant, a daylong basketball event was being held at Columbus Africentric Early College PreK-12 that involved various teams from the city league versus suburban teams. During one of the games, a fight broke out among spectators.

As people in the stands tried to get away from the fight, they spilled out onto the court forcing the game to be stopped. The last game of the evening was forced to be canceled due to the situation.

Columbus police were at the school to assist with the event and helped people exit the venue.

One person involved in the fight was detained by police in the stands. No arrests have been made.

No players were involved or injured.
