COLUMBUS, Ohio — A man accused of killing a woman in a "brutal attack" at a north Columbus hotel earlier this year has been found competent to stand trial.
Arthur Scott Jr., 36, had a psychiatric hearing Wednesday where the judge found him competent to stand trial. They will now seek a trial date.
Scott was indicted in May on six counts, including aggravated murder, aggravated burglary, kidnapping, rape and strangulation in the death of 61-year-old Li-Chu Lin.
Court documents state that officers with the Columbus Division of Police were called to the Double Ten Hotel at 6125 Zumstein Drive on April 26 on a report of a woman who was found dead. When officers arrived, they found Lin who had injuries from a "brutal attack."
According to court documents, investigators obtained video from the hotel showing Scott walking down the hallway checking for unlocked doors. He then entered a room and Lin entered the same room shortly afterward. After an unknown period of time, Scott was seen on the video leaving the room.
Lin was found naked inside the room with apparent physical injuries. Detectives found evidence that other crimes, including rape, had occurred.
After being taken into custody, court records state that Scott admitted to Lin's murder and other crimes.
According to the indictment, the grand jury stated that Scott was a repeated violent offender citing a criminal case that took place on May 28, 2020.
