COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Franklin County grand jury indicted two men in connection to the shooting in the Short North Arts District in June that left 10 people injured.

Rondell Mallory Jr., 22, was charged with tampering with evidence, according to the indictment. Gabriel Hunter, 19, was charged with tampering with evidence and having a weapon while under disability. The indictment states that Hunter’s weapons charge stems from a March 2022 conviction for a weapons offense.

Mallory and Hunter are two of the three suspects charged in the June 23 shooting. Deangelo Fuller turned himself in hours after the shooting and admitted to driving a suspect vehicle and not stopping when officers chased him.

During the investigation, detectives learned that Mallory was seen on video with a firearm, pointing it and firing it at other people.

Court records say when police found Mallory, he had gotten rid of the weapon to prevent officers and detectives from finding it.

Hunter was taken into custody after he was transported to a hospital from the shooting. Court records did not specify his role in the shooting and what injuries he sustained.

Detectives learned that he was involved in a shooting in the Hilltop area two days before. Court records say on June 21, officers went to a home in the 200 block of South Eureka Avenue after receiving a report of someone being shot. A man was found with multiple gunshots on his lower body. He was taken to a hospital for treatment.

A witness told police that she was in the front room on the couch when she heard gunshots. She saw Hunter run past her out the door while holding a firearm. He jumped into a Chevrolet Cruze before he left the scene.

The morning of the Short North shooting, court records say Hunter was transported to a hospital out of the shooting.

Detectives went to the hospital where the man was being treated. One of the detectives showed him six photos where Hunter was in one of them. The shooting victim identified him as the suspect who shot him.

Hunter was later interviewed by police and arrested.
