COLUMBUS, Ohio — A Freeze Warning has been issued Wednesday morning from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. as some cities and towns may dip below freezing. It doesn't look like a freeze is likely in the metro area, as temperatures will stay above freezing tonight.
But surrounding counties may dip down to freezing. This means that any plants or sensitive vegetation should be covered up or brought inside.
Freeze Warning Weather Impacts:
- The warning will be in effect for Wednesday and Thursday mornings from 2 a.m. to 9 a.m. For some areas, the warning will go into effect at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
- The freeze could damage plants and vegetation.
- To protect your plants, be sure to cover them or bring them inside.
All counties in our viewing area are included in the freeze warning such as Delaware, Franklin, Licking, Fairfield, Pickaway, Fayette, Madison, and Union counties.
Cloudy skies will clear late in the day on Tuesday. Clear skies and calm winds Tuesday night will allow nighttime lows to dip down to 35 degrees Fahrenheit in Columbus, which is cold enough for a frost, and around 32 degrees Fahrenheit for areas outside the metro, which is cold enough for a freeze.
A hard freeze is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning as nighttime lows will dip down to freezing in Columbus, and the middle and upper 20s outside of the metro area.
With our first freeze on the way, this will bring a halt to the growing season.
