AEP preparing for power outages as severe weather threat approaches

Officials are asking everyone to secure loose items now to prevent problems later on Thursday.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Officials with AEP Ohio are encouraging customers in central Ohio to have a plan in place in case their power goes out.

AEP Ohio is forecasting scattered outages throughout Thursday but can’t predict where they will happen.

“Every weather event, every storm is different on when it hits and where it hits. And once we kind of know that, we’re kind of able to dial in our restoration efforts” said Zach Miller, an AEP Customer Manager.

With that in mind, AEP Ohio officials are reminding folks that if their power goes out to be cautious and safe when it comes to restoration efforts. If high winds bring down any power lines near or around where you are, stay away from not only those down lines but also any debris around them.

Instead of trying to fix anything on your own, contact AEP.

“This is also what our crews do year round! That’s why you see them out in your neighborhood, they’re maintaining and upgrading the equipment so we can reduce the number of potential outages” said Miller.
