1 dead, 2 injured in crash on I-270 West; all lanes at US 23 reopen

All lanes at U.S. Route 23 were closed for nearly three hours after the crash.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — A crash on Interstate 270 West in southern Franklin County has left one person dead and two others injured, according to the Franklin County Sheriff's Office.

The sheriff's office said the crash happened around 3:25 p.m. on I-270 West near state Route 104.

A Freightliner semi tractor-trailer was traveling westbound on I-270 and slowing down for traffic, FCSO said. A GMC van was traveling directly behind the semi and failed to keep its distance, causing it to hit the semi and become engulfed in flames.

The driver of the GMC and a child were transported to nearby hospitals and are expected to be OK. An adult passenger in the GMC was pronounced dead at the scene.

The driver of the semi was not injured.

All lanes of I-270 West at U.S. Route 23 were shut down due to the crash but have since reopened.
