COLUMBUS, Ohio — The 10 Weather Impact team issued a Weather Impact Day for Thursday morning as temperatures are expected to dip into the low 30s overnight.
A Freeze Warning was issued for the region but it expired at 9 a.m.
With freezing temperatures, this means that any plants or sensitive vegetation should be covered up or brought inside.
A hard freeze is expected Wednesday night into Thursday morning as nighttime lows will dip down to freezing in Columbus, and the middle and upper 20s outside of the metro area.
Frost Advisories and Freeze Warnings are only issued during the growing season, and once that is determined to have ended (for example, if we experience a couple of hard freezes), they will no longer be issued.
A Freeze Warning means that the temperature near the ground is expected to be at or below 32. A Freeze Warning is more impactful than a Frost Advisory because at 32 or lower, the plants essentially freeze (instead of just getting a light layer of frost on the outside).
It's worth noting that while we will experience cold temperatures for the next few mornings. If you'd like to extend your growing season, bring your plants inside or cover them, as we're expecting moderating temperatures into the weekend and through next week.
With our first freeze on the way, this will bring a halt to the growing season.
