Jay Taylor, director of programming and operations at 97.1 The Fan, heard the message loud and clear from the sports talk radio station’s listeners.
“More local content in the mornings!”
So, he responded.
Beginning Monday, April 4, the Tim & Beanie show debuts. Tim Hall and former Ohio State and NFL running back Chris “Beanie” Wells will be live and local weekdays from 10 a.m. to noon.
“This is a great opportunity for our loyal and craving audience for get more local sports talk,” Taylor said. “It also brings another exciting layer to our team on the highest-rated ESPN affiliate in the country.”
Previously, Hall and Wells comprised “The Buckeye Show,” which aired weekdays from 6-8 p.m.
“We’re excited to be hosting the 10 a.m. to noon slot,” Hall said. “We loved doing evenings but this gives us a chance to give our opinions for two hours a day about the biggest national stories and, of course, the Buckeyes on a daily basis.”
Hall, a Woodbridge, Va. native, has been at 97.1 since October 2012 after stops in Kansas City and Raleigh, N.C.
Wells played for Ohio State from 2006-08 and finished fifth all-time in rushing with 3,382 yards. The Akron native was selected 31st overall in the first round of the 2009 NFL Draft by the Arizona Cardinals. He played four seasons in the NFL highlighted by a 2011 campaign in which he rushed for 1,047 yards on 245 carries and 10 touchdowns.
“This is my life-long dream to be a personality and discuss sports for a living,” said Well, who started at 97.1 in February 2015. “I can’t be more happy and thrilled to be doing this. It gives myself and Tim and opportunity to reach a different audience, which I think is an awesome opportunity for growth and development.”
