COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Savannah Bananas are the hottest ticket in town this weekend.
The tickets for all three nights at Huntington Park have been sold out since the day they went on sale.
“We saw them last year in Akron, loved it, so decided to bring the family back again this year for another game,” said Cheryl and Zack Thorpe who traveled from Toledo for Saturday’s game.
About 30,000 people will watch banana ball at the ballpark this weekend.
Fans had to enter a lottery to buy tickets, but they sold out in hours.
“We grew up playing baseball but it’s the performance they put on with it they put a twist to baseball and no one’s ever done that before,” said Jayden Morrison, who got his tickets from a friend.
Columbus had one of the largest waiting lists of all stops on the team’s world tour, according to Jared Orton, Savannah Bananas President.
“Even in Savannah when we play our games there, it always feels like we have representation from Ohio coming to our games we were like 'OK. We have to return the favor and bring banana ball to Columbus.' And here we are for a really fantastic weekend,” Orton said.
With a hot ticket like this, the team is warning of scammers and buying a ticket from a third party.
Orton said to be cautious if you do not personally know the seller.
“Because of the internet, people just put fake things out there people just literally making up things saying, 'I got tickets,' and we try to make an aggressive stance to tell people the only way to get tickets is through us, we don’t sell them to anyone,” he said.
The Savannah Bananas will return to Ohio for a game in Cleveland in August, but it too is sold out. Resell tickets are going for hundreds of dollars on third party websites.
With all the energy from fans this weekend, the Bananas hope to come back to Columbus in the future.
