8 athletes from Ohio State swimming and diving to compete in Paris Olympics

PARIS, France — Eight athletes with ties to the Ohio State swimming and diving program are in Paris to compete in the Olympics starting this weekend.

Former Buckeyes Hunter Armstrong, Ciara McGing and Kristen Romano, current athletes Alex Axon, Lena Hentschel, Tristan Jankovics and Tomas Navikonis and incoming Buckeye Emma Finlin are all set to compete in Paris.

Armstrong will swim for Team USA for his second straight Olympics. He won a gold medal at the Tokyo Olympics in the 4x100 medley relay, after helping Team USA to a spot in the relay finals. He will compete in the 100 back and the 4x100 free relay this year.

Hentschel will also compete in her second straight Olympics for Team Germany. She was a bronze medalist in the 3-meter synchronized dive in Tokyo.

Axon, Jankovics and Finlin will all represent Team Canada and it is the first career Olympics for all three swimmers.

Navikonis will swim for Team Lithuania in the 4x200 free relay in his first career Olympic Games.

McGing will dive on the 10-meter platform for Team Ireland in her first Olympics. McGing was officially named to Ireland’s Olympic roster on July 4. 

Romano will also swim at her first career Olympics, representing Team Puerto Rico in the 200 individual medley.
