COLUMBUS, Ohio — The Columbus Blue Jackets signed center Sean Monahan to a five-year deal on Monday.
According to a release from the club, the contract is worth $27.5 million and keeps the 29-year-old veteran in Columbus through the 2028-29 season.
Monahan has spent the first 8 of his 12 seasons in the NHL with the Calgary Flames, where he was teammates with Columbus forward Johnny Gaudreau for several seasons. He was with the Montreal Canadians for the 2022-23 season before playing a split season with Montreal and the Winnipeg Jets last year.
During his career, Monahan has scored 244 goals and notched 294 assists in 764 career games. In addition, he's scored 10 goals and 12 assists in 35 playoff games.
“Sean Monahan is a very talented player, and his addition strengthens our team down the middle and injects valuable experience, leadership and versatility to our lineup,” said Club President and General Manager DonWaddell. “He can score and create goals, is very good in the faceoff circle and can play on the power play and kill penalties. We’re very excited to have him join the Blue Jackets.”
The Blue Jackets open the 2024 season on the road against the Minnesota Wild.
