Bills' Von Miller turns himself in on felony domestic violence charge

"The alleged victim had been in an argument when Miller allegedly assaulted her," police said after responding to a call involving the Bills' Von Miller.

DALLAS — Buffalo Bills linebacker Von Miller is accused of assaulting his pregnant girlfriend, as first reported by our sister station in Dallas, WFAA.

A warrant was issued for a charge of assaulting a pregnant person. Miller turned himself in to police around 3 p.m. Thursday, Dallas time. He immediately posted a $5,000 bond.

Authorities say an incident took place at around 10:40 a.m. Wednesday when Miller, 34, and his girlfriend of seven years got in a fight over travel plans.

The arrest-warrant affidavit said the fight escalated to the point where the former Super Bowl MVP became physically violent.

According to the police report, a preliminary investigation of a “major disturbance” at an apartment in the 3100 block of North Harwood in the Uptown area of Dallas determined that Miller and the woman got into a verbal argument. The report says the suspect became “visibly angry” when the woman left the room, went into the office in their apartment and slammed the door behind her.

It says Miller then told her to leave and, when she tried to retrieve her laptop and cell phone, Miller began pushing her, continuing to tell her to “get out.” She yelled “Stop. I'm pregnant” repeatedly, according to the report, and when the pushing caused her to fall into a chair, Miller put one hand on her neck and held it for 3 to 5 seconds.

The report says Miller threw her laptop on the floor and stomped on it, pulled a chunk of her hair out and threw her on the couch and put both hands around her neck. She told police she recorded some of the attack and, when she threatened to call police, he left.

Police said Miller left the scene before officers arrived.

The alleged victim was not taken to a hospital but was treated for minor injuries at the scene, police said. She told the 911 operator that she was bleeding.

The charge of assaulting a pregnant woman is a third-degree felony in Texas and a crime that could put Miller behind bars for two-to-10 years following a new Texas law in 2019 that increased penalties for assault when the victim is pregnant.

Our sister station in Dallas, WFAA, also received a text that appears to come from Miller’s girlfriend Thursday, saying the couple is fine and that things have been blown out of context.

The Bills issued a statement that read, "This morning, we were made aware of an incident involving Von Miller. We are in the process of gathering more information and will have no further comment at this point."

Von Miller joined the Bills team in 2022 on a six-year, $120 million deal. Before the Bills, he had played for the Los Angeles Rams.
