CINCINNATI — Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow is out for the season after suffering a wrist injury during Thursday night's game against the Baltimore Ravens.
During the second quarter of the game, Burrow was sacked by Baltimore edge rusher Jadeveon Clowney and Burrow landed on his right wrist. Burrow was seen attempting to throw a football on the sideline, but winced in pain and went to the locker room. He was ruled out and the Bengals went on to lose 34-20.
During a press conference Friday afternoon, head coach Zac Taylor said Burrow suffered a torn ligament that will likely need surgery.
Cincinnati (5-5) had high hopes heading into the season, coming off a loss in the AFC Championship game and making the Super Bowl the year prior.
The club got off to a sluggish start to begin the year due to Burrow suffering a calf injury during training camp. Burrow was not nearly as mobile as he usually is due to the injury and the Bengals offense struggled to get much going for the first few weeks.
Coming into Thursday's game, the team posted a now-deleted video on X showing Burrow getting off a team bus with his right hand in what appears to be a soft cast. Taylor said that is "totally unrelated" to the wrist injury he would later suffer. An AP report says the NFL will investigate why Cincinnati did not list Burrow on the team's injury report.
The Bengals will likely lean on backup quarterback Jake Browning for the rest of the year. Browning only played one professional snap heading into Thursday night's game.
