Georgette Perry describes her son – Ohio State linebacker Joshua Perry – as a tall, skinny child when he was in fourth grade. She says he enjoyed playing football and had a passion for the sport at such a young age.
That passion took Perry all the way to the National Championship. His parents walked the path with him, and still do.
Georgette shows her support by wearing everything Ohio State -- dressed head to toe in Scarlett and Grey. “We're very proud of (Joshua), so proud. He's worked very hard to get where he is and to be on this stage.”
To be on the national stage takes tons of focus, something Perry has plenty of.
“48 hours before a game, we have no contact with him because he's getting in the zone,” Georgette explains.
That’s why a moment this week at the team hotel was so special. From a distance, mom got a glimpse of her #37. A simple “hey!” was shouted to Joshua.
It was short, but sweet. Just like dad's exchange with coach Meyer. “That’s my guy,” exclaimed dad Jim. “Urban Meyer is one phenomenal coach. (He’s) a greater person in terms of working with our young men (and) developing these guys.”
The memories are equally priceless, like the way Joshua starts every game and the way his folks expect him to start Monday night. “He looks up into the stands to see where we are, and when he finds us, he gives us his salute. He blows a kiss.”
Joshua’s family says he couldn’t imagine going to the National Championship with any other group of guys like his current teammates.
