COLUMBUS, Ohio — A familiar face is returning to Nationwide Arena.
The Columbus Blue Jackets signed veteran defenseman Jack Johnson to a 1-year deal on Tuesday.
Johnson spent seven years in Columbus starting in 2012. During his tenure, he scored 36 goals and 118 assists with back-to-back seasons with 30-plus points.
President and General Manager Don Waddell hopes the 37-year-old defenseman will be able to mentor the younger blueliners.
“Jack Johnson is a consummate professional who has been a very good player and leader in this league for many years and will be a great asset to our team, particularly the young defensemen we have in our organization,” said Waddell. “He is in tremendous shape, plays a simple, hard game, has won a Stanley Cup and has great passion for this city and organization and we are thrilled to welcome him back.”
Johnson's deal is $750,000, which is the league minimum. Johnson has also played with the Los Angeles Kings, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche and Chicago Blackhawks.
