COLUMBUS, Ohio — For the first time, the Columbus Crew will host a playoff game at Lower.com Field where they will take on Atlanta United Wednesday night.
It's been a few years since Crew fans got to enjoy playoff soccer. The last time the Crew made the playoffs was in 2020 -- they also won the MLS Cup that year.
The Crew finished as the No. 3 seed in the Eastern Conference with a 16-9-9 record. Atlanta secured the No. 6 seed with a 13-12-9 record.
This is the first year of the new MLS playoff format. Under the format, the opening round is a best-of-three series.
Columbus is scheduled to play the second game in Atlanta on Nov. 7. If necessary, the two clubs will play the third game in Columbus on Nov. 12.
The conference semifinals are set for Nov. 25-26 and the conference finals will be played Dec. 2-3. The MLS Cup will take place Dec. 9.
Here's what you need to know for the game
- The March to the Match will begin at Whistle & Keg starting at 6:30 p.m. From there, fans will march to Lower.com Field. The game is set to begin at 7:30 p.m.
- Columbus has only lost one of its last nine matches against Atlanta (6 wins, 2 draws).
- During the last match against Lower.com Field between the two clubs, Atlanta gave up a club-record six goals.
- Columbus is unbeaten in 15 straight home matches and has lost just one of its last 27 games at Lower.com Field dating back to August 2022.
- The Crew tied a club record set in 1998 withy 67 goals this year, finishing as the top scorers in MLS for the first time in club history.
- Columbus scored multiple goals in a match 21 times this season - a league high.
