COLUMBUS, Ohio - Former NFL and Ohio State running back Chris "Beanie" Wells says health issues forced him to take a weeks-long absence from his radio show.
Wells returned Monday to the Tim and Beanie show on 97.1 The Fan.
“At this present moment, I’m OK. I did have some health issues going on. I went for an MRI scan of my head and saw some things on there that quite did not look right, and also had some symptoms that led to me going in for that scan," Wells said.
Wells said he was getting headaches, showing forgetfulness and his speech was impaired at times.
The MRI showed signs of a "traumatic brain injury," according to Wells.
“Obviously, that traumatic brain injury for me came from playing football,” Wells said.
Following the MRI, Wells said he started receiving treatment at a facility in California. He said he is feeling better but is "Not out of the woods yet."
In three seasons with the Buckeyes, Wells rushed for 3,382 yards which is the fourth highest in total Ohio State history.
In 2007, he ran for 222 yards in the Ohio State-Michigan game.
He went on to play four seasons in the NFL with the Arizona Cardinals.
