COLUMBUS, Ohio — As Ohio State and Northwestern prepare to face off at Wrigley Field on Nov. 16, photos and video show the transformation of the baseball diamond into a football field.
Northwestern's home field is undergoing construction, so the team will be hosting most of its games over the next two years along Lake Michigan at a temporary facility. The team's final two home games of the season, however, will take place at the home of the Chicago Cubs.
Videos shared to X show the famous baseball field being transformed into a football field with end zones painted on and goalposts put up.
Only one other football game is scheduled to be played at Wrigley this season. Northwestern and Illinois are scheduled to play on the transformed baseball diamond on Nov. 30.
This is the second time in this series' history that Ohio State and Northwestern are playing at a Major League Baseball park. The other game happened in 1991 at Cleveland Municipal Stadium, which was once home to the Cleveland Indians and the Browns. Ohio State won the game 34-3 in front of 73,830 fans.
In addition to the 1991 game, Ohio State played games at Cleveland Municipal Stadium in 1942, 1943 and 1944.
Ohio State has also played in MLB parks against Brigham Young in 1982 and 1993 (Jack Murphy Stadium), Fresno State in 1994 (Anaheim Stadium) and at the Polo Grounds in 1926 (Columbia) and 1938 (NYU).
Ohio State is 19-1 in baseball stadiums. Their only loss was to Purdue in 1943.
This isn’t the only time the Wrigley Field has transformed. The field has also hosted ice hockey in the past.
In January, Ohio State men's and women’s hockey will take part in “The Frozen Confines: Big Ten Hockey Series” at Wrigley Field.
Kickoff for the Ohio State-Northwestern game is set for noon and the game will appear on The Big Ten Network.
