Welcome back from the first bye week of the season.

Ohio State football is back as the Buckeyes welcome the Marshall Thundering Herd to Columbus.

The Buckeyes are off to a great start. They've beaten their first two opponents, Akron and Western Michigan, by a combined 108-6.

A lot of the wrinkles should be ironed out now. Ohio State coach Ryan Day said these games give him a chance to get game experience for a lot of players who will eventually be needed in the course of a long season.

“We're not where we need to be yet,” Day said.

Marshall, after blowing out FCS school Stony Brook in Week 1, gave a respectable performance against Virginia Tech, staying in the game until the second half of the 31-14 loss.

The Herd may find it hard to compete with Ohio State and its arsenal of weapons, but fourth-year coach Charles Huff can at least get a better idea of how the pieces all fit together for his team moving forward.

“Tremendous opportunity on the national stage,” Huff said. “Our guys fully understand the mission. They fully understand the size of the challenge.”

Facts and figures

The Buckeyes escaped with a 24-21 win against Marshall on Sept. 11, 2004. The next time they played, on Sept. 2, 2010, Ohio State walked away with a 45-7 rout.

Ohio State's Quinshon Judkins and TreVeyon Henderson are averaging 7.4 and 7.3 yards per carry, respectively.

Since 1977, Marshall has been a member of the Southern, Mid-American, Conference USA and the Sun Belt conferences.

A,J. Turner rushed for 103 yards on six carries in the Herd's loss to Virginia Tech. Turner became only the third player in Marshall school history to record rushes of 69-or-more yards in consecutive games. He logged an 80-yard touchdown run against Stony Brook and then had a 69-yard romp at Virginia Tech.

Marshall DL Mike Green has eight career sacks.
