Ryan Day has high praise for Ohio State QB Will Howard, but no starter named yet

Howard is with competing with four other quarterbacks for the starting job: Devin Brown, Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz and Air Noland.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Head coach Ryan Day had plenty of praise for Ohio State quarterback Will Howard, but stopped short of naming him the starter for the upcoming season.

Howard is with competing with four other quarterbacks for the starting job: Devin Brown, Julian Sayin, Lincoln Kienholz and Air Noland.

During Thursday's press conference, Day said Howard and Brown have taken a majority of the reps with the ones, but the Kansas State transfer has taken more command of the offense.

"Will really has taken some strides in the last couple practices. Taken control of the offense, making plays on third down. Again, you know, hasn't won the job but we have seen some positive play there," Day said.

Day continued his praise for Howard, adding that he has put in the work this summer and that his throwing mechanics have improved.

The Buckeyes have a scrimmage planned for Saturday. Day said he will reevaluate afterward and "see where we are at."
