COLUMBUS, Ohio — One of the themes for the Buckeyes’ home games this season will recognize Archie Griffin as he celebrates 50 years since receiving his first Heisman Trophy.
The themes of the 2024 home games were announced Monday by the Ohio State University Department of Athletics. Ohio State plans to host eight teams.
The first home game, scheduled for Aug. 31, celebrates the former Buckeye running back, Griffin. He is still the nation’s only two-time Heisman winner. He later went on to play for the Cincinnati Bengals.
One new theme, paying respect to first responders, was also added to the list this year.
The team will round out its season by hosting the annual game against That Team Up North on Nov. 30.
The games are included below:
- Aug. 31 vs. Akron – Archie Griffin 50th Anniversary Heisman Celebration and Faculty & Staff Appreciation
- Sept. 7 vs. Western Michigan – Alumni Band Day
- Sept. 21 vs. Marshall – Scarlet & Gray Game
- Oct. 5 vs. Iowa – Hall of Fame
*The team will wear alternate Gray uniforms - Oct. 26 vs. Nebraska – Homecoming & Scarlet the Shoe
*Ohio State asks fans to "Scarlet the 'Shoe" by wearing nothing but scarlet. - Nov. 9 vs. Purdue – Military Appreciation
- Nov. 23 vs. Indiana – First Responders Appreciation
- Nov. 30 vs. Michigan – Senior Day
