Ohio State announces new running backs coach

Locklyn comes from Oregon where he has been the running backs coach for the last two seasons.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State announced on Monday that Carlos Locklyn is joining its football staff as the new running backs coach.

Locklyn comes from Oregon where he has been the running backs coach for the last two seasons. He also coached at Western Kentucky and served off-field roles at Memphis and Florida State.

Under Locklyn, Oregon was ranked in the top 30 nationally in rushing yards per game in 2022 and 2023. Individually, Locklyn helped develop Bucky Irving into an All-Pac 12 running back who had back-to-back 1,000 yard seasons under his guidance and is projected to be selected in the NFL Draft later this month.

Locklyn went to Oregon after his one-year stint coaching running backs at Western Kentucky. There, he helped the Hilltoppers reach the Conference USA championship game. Western Kentucky ranked second in the FBS in scoring offense (44.2 points/game) and was second nationally in total offense (536.2 yards/game).

Locklyn replaces Tony Alford, who announced his departure in March to join the Michigan Wolverines as its running backs coach under head coach Sherrone Moore.

Alford had been the team's assistant head coach for offense and running backs coach since 2015.

Alford would replace Mike Hart, the former Wolverines star who had been running backs coach under coach Jim Harbaugh for three seasons.
