NEW YORK — Ohio State wide receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. finished fourth in voting for the Heisman Trophy Saturday night.
LSU quarterback Jayden Daniels took home the 2023 Heisman Trophy. Daniels finished the regular season with 50 total touchdowns, a 208 passer rating and 8.4 yards per rushing attempt. He had an FBS-best 4,946 yards through LSU's 12 games.
Harrison has 67 catches for 1,211 yards and 15 touchdowns on the year, all of which led the Buckeyes this past season. This is the fifth time in the last six years a Buckeye has made it to New York as a finalist.
Harrison’s overall numbers lagged behind some of the other star receivers around the country, but he was the most consistent threat for a Buckeyes offense that was breaking in a new starting quarterback and dealt with injuries to its supporting cast all season.
Troy Smith was the last Buckeye to win college football's top award in 2006. Six Buckeyes have won the Heisman, with Archie Griffin winning it twice.
List of all Ohio State Heisman winners:
- Troy Smith, QB, 2006
- Eddie George, RB, 1995
- Archie Griffin, RB, 1974 and 1975
- Howard Cassady, RB, 1955
- Vic Janowicz, RB, 1950
- Les Horvath, QB, 1944
Harrison said on Wednesday he is undecided if he will play in the Cotton Bowl or return to Ohio State next year. He said his reason to return would be to beat Michigan and win a Big Ten Championship.
If he does declare for the draft, he will surely be a top 5 pick.
