COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Alabama quarterback and five-star recruit Julian Sayin is transferring to Ohio State, he told ESPN on Sunday.
Sayin initially committed to Alabama in December but entered the transfer portal after Nick Saban, the long-time head coach of the Crimson Tide, announced his retirement.
“Incredibly excited to join the team here at Ohio State," Sayin told ESPN. "I held this program in high regard throughout my entire recruiting process and am looking forward to learning from some of the most talented players and coaches in college football and contributing to our team’s success."
He is a true freshman and will be coming to Ohio State with four years of collegiate eligibility and will be eligible to play immediately in 2024.
Sayin is ESPN's No. 3 overall prospect in the Class of 2024 and the top offensive prospect in his recruiting class. He told ESPN that he plans to enroll soon and will compete for Ohio State in spring practice.
Sayin is the second quarterback to transfer to Ohio State this offseason, joining former Kansas State quarterback Will Howard. He is the third former Alabama player to transfer to Ohio State during the offseason, joining safety Caleb Downs and center Seth McLaughlin.
