COLUMBUS, Ohio — Former Alabama safety Caleb Downs has committed to Ohio State, multiple reports confirm.
Downs entered the transfer portal on Wednesday and committed to Ohio State on Friday. He has three remaining seasons of collegiate eligibility.
Downs is ranked by 247Sports as the No. 1 player to enter the transfer portal this offseason. He was named 1st Team Freshman All-American, SEC Freshman of the Year and won the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award as the best freshman in all of college football this past season.
This past season, Downs led Alabama with 107 tackles, made two interceptions and four pass breakups, recorded 3.5 tackles for loss with a forced fumble and a fumble recovery and returned a punt for a touchdown in his first collegiate season.
He joins former Alabama center Seth McLaughlin, quarterback Will Howard and running back Quinshon Judkins as the Buckeyes' recent major additions.
