COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State senior guard Taylor Mikesell was named the Big Ten Player of the Week for the first time this season after leading the No. 3 Buckeyes to a pair of wins last week.
Mikesell led the Ohio State offense, averaging 26.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.5 assists and 1.5 steals while shooting 48.8% from the floor and 40.9% from long range against Minnesota and Illinois to improve the team’s record to 17-0 overall and 6-0 in Big Ten play.
She led both games, among all players, in scoring and playing every minute on the court.
Against the Gophers, Mikesell had her fifth 20-point game of the season, totaling 22 points, seven rebounds and a season-high seven assists.
In the second game of the week, she recorded her second 30-point game of the season with a season-high 31 points, two shy of her career-high, and shot 7-of-14 from behind the arc against the Illini.
Mikesell had eight points in the third quarter and seven in the fourth quarter as the Buckeyes erased a 17-point third-quarter deficit for the largest second-half comeback in program history.
This season, Mikesell leads Ohio State with 18.8 points per game and is averaging 3.4 rebounds, 2.8 assists and 1.6 steals per game.
In conference play, she’s improved those numbers to 21.8 points, 4.8 rebounds, 3.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game.
Mikesell is approaching 2,000 career points (1,954) and 1,000 as a Buckeye (916).
The Buckeyes next game is set for Jan. 14 at Nebraska before returning home to host Northwestern on Jan. 19.
