Ohio State’s Mikesell named to 2023 Naismith Woman’s Player of the Year Midseason Team

She leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 17.6 points per game overall and 18.0 points per game in conference play.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — Ohio State women’s basketball senior guard Taylor Mikesell was named to the 2023 Naismith Women’s Player of the Year Midseason Team on Tuesday by the Atlanta Tipoff Club.

She leads the Buckeyes in scoring with 17.6 points per game overall (eighth in Big Ten) and 18.0 points per game in conference play (ninth in Big Ten) as well as three-point shooting (3.1 per game, second in Big Ten).

Mikesell captured her first Big Ten Player of the Week honors after scoring a season-high 31 points vs. Illinois on Jan. 8.

She scored her 1,000th point as a Buckeye on Feb. 1 at Wisconsin, despite this being her second season in Columbus. She previously scored her 2,000th career point on Jan. 26 at Indiana.

Mikesell is the 36th player in program history to score 1,000 points.

She is ninth in program history with 188 three-pointers made as a Buckeye and recently made her 400th career triple.

In addition to Tuesday’s announcement, Mikesell has also been named to the Wooden Award midseason top-25 watch list and to the midseason top-10 for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award.

She appeared on the preseason watch lists for the Ann Meyers-Drysdale Award, Naismith Women’s Player of the Year and Wooden Award.

Mikesell was also selected to the Preseason All-Big Ten team by both the coaches (unanimous) and the media.

Mikesell is averaging 18.2 points per game as a Buckeye and 14.1 points per game throughout her collegiate career.
