Dashcam footage of an Upper Arlington police officer responding to the scene captured the tense moments after a house was destroyed in an explosion.
TIMELINE OF EVENTS
12:46:40 p.m. Call received by Police Dispatch on the non-emergency number from a neighbor of 3418 Sunningdale Way. He stated that he was intending to enter the property at the request of a Columbia Gas representative who was onsite checking reports of a gas leak. He was worried he might set off the house alarm. The dispatcher asked some questions about the gas leak and stated at the end of the call to let dispatch know if they needed the Fire Division on scene. Click here to listen to this audio.
14:47 p.m. First reports of the explosion.
14:48 p.m. Police Car #50 in the area reporting back findings.
14:50 p.m. Fire emergency crews dispatched to the scene. Police Car #50 reports that entire house has exploded on Sunningdale.
14:52 p.m. First Fire emergency crews arrive on scene.
15:02 p.m. Fire reports that crews have distinguished the bulk of the fire.
15:06 p.m. Fire crews confirm with Columbia Gas that they have accounted for all of their personnel on scene.
15:06 p.m. Fire confirms that there is a gas fed fire, which they leave to let the gas burn off.
15:07 p.m. Fire crews confirmed with neighbors and bystanders that the family was away and the house was not currently occupied.
15:19 p.m. Fire releases the first Columbus standby responders from the scene.
15:56 p.m. Fire considers the incident contained.
