The principal at Upper Arlington High School said on Monday that he takes allegations of student drug abuse seriously.
An article in the school's student newspaper, The Arlingtonian, reported about a student named "John" and his addiction to heroin, 10TV's Tanisha Mallett reported.
The article said that high school principal Kip Greenhill took what the article called "a unique stance" on drug use prevention, which included not immediately involving police.
"We have an excellent working relationship with the police and we don't hesitate to involve them." Greenhill said. "If a family is resistant to getting their child help that is when we will most definitely involve the police in these drug and alcohol issues."
Over the weekend, parents received a letter from Greenhill that said that there was misinformation about how the school handles drugs on campus.
"We have found the use of bringing the family in, working on a plan of action with the family to be much more effective," Greenhill said. "Part of that also is the drug testing that is more effective than using dogs."
