Upper Arlington Elementary School Gets Visit From NASA Astronaut

Months after students got to connect with an astronaut in orbit, they got the chance to meet an astronaut in person at their Upper Arlington school.

Astronaut and Ohio native Suni Williams talked with elementary students at Wickliffe Progressive Community School on Monday.

In August, students got the chance to talk with Williams as she lifted off to the International Space Station. The connection was made thanks to 10TV's satellite dish.

"I'm just psyched about all the different science experiments they're doing and how much they know about space," said Williams. "It's really motivating. It's actually really cool to watch them. They're so developed and they have so many great questions."

Fifth-grader Jack Tjaden said that he was excited to meet her.

"It was really fun to meet her and talk to her and just see all the things she does and stuff," Tjaden said.

Teachers and administrators said it is a unique way to get kids excited about science.

"What a wonderful role model for the children and the staff, for all of us," said Sabrina Walters.

Williams said she think the children's futures look bright.

"I have a lot of faith in the future, and I'm psyched for these guys to get out there and be the next explorers," Williams said.

Fifth-grader Jack Tjaden said that he was excited to meet her.

"It was really fun to meet her and talk to her an just see all the things she does and stuff," Tjaden said.
