Teacher, Coach Arrested On Child Porn Resigns

A boys basketball coach accused of trading child pornography has quit. Get the latest on the investigation

A Hilliard middle school teacher charged with possessing and distributing child pornography onThursday resigned and surrendered his teaching license.

Michael Highman, 43, of Upper Arlington, was arrested Oct. 15 during an FBI raid on his homewhich netted 200,000 images and movies of prepubescent boys engaged in sexual acts. 

A federal warrant said Highman traded child pornography for several years, 10TV Newsreported

Highman taught physical education and health at Hilliard's Weaver Middle School and was a boysbasketball coach.

The district put him on paid administrative leave after learning of the investigation.

Carrie Bartunek, a spokeswoman with Hilliard City Schools, said there was no indication thatany students in the district were involved in the case.

"It is our understanding that there are no students from the district involved in theinvestigation at this time," Bartunek said Tuesday.  "We are thankful for that."

Highman, who is being monitored electronically while on house arrest, could not be reached forcomment Tuesday.

Highman's attorney Mark Collins said the FBI investigation does not involve any local childrenand that his client is cooperating.

The charges against him carry a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison.
