Tax Deadline: Some Post Offices To Stay Open Late Monday

Some post office locations in Columbus will offer longer hours on Monday, which is the deadline for filing tax returns.

Some post offices will have extended hours next week as the deadline for filing tax returnsapproaches.

People have an extra weekend to file this year because of a District of Columbia holiday. The deadline is Monday, April 18.

While most post offices close at 5 p.m., some will stay open longer on Monday to accommodatelate filers.

In Columbus, the main post office, located at 850 Twin Rivers Dr., will offer full retailservices until 7 p.m.  The Port Columbus station, located at 4299 Sawyer Rd., will offer fullretail services until 11 p.m.

At the Columbus Processing and Distribution Center, located at 2323 Citygate Dr., workers willcollect fully-paid mail outside until midnight.

The United State Postal Service offered the following tax tips:

  • If depositing returns in a collection box on April 18, double-check the last scheduled pick-uptime.
  • Stamped packages weighing more than 13 ounces must be presented in person to a Post Officeclerk to comply with FAA regulations.
  • Some tax returns weigh more than the one-ounce rate of 44 cents. Please ensure you have affixedthe correct amount of postage. Tax agencies will not pay postage due.
  • Effective April 17, the additional ounce for First-Class Mail will increase to 20 cents.First-Class Mail letters (1 oz.) remain unchanged at 44 cents.
  • It is very important that your envelope has a return address.
  • In addition, we recommend customer's use certified mail with a return receipt for proof ofmailing and delivery.
  • Tax forms are no longer available at Post Offices.
