Semi Driver Charged With Vehicular Homicide After Deadly Delaware County Crash

Two people were killed and several were hurt after a four-vehicle crash in Delaware County.

The crash occurred in the northbound lanes of U.S. 23 at Route 229 around 11:30 a.m. Wednesday.

According to police, Randall G. Lee, 51, Canton, Michigan, the driver of a Werner Enterprises semi-truck, failed to brake adequately for traffic stopped at a red light and struck a 2014 Ford Escape driven by Curtis Dixon, 69, Howell, Michigan. Dixon's vehicle then hit a 2007 Kia Rondo driven by Sanjay Dhall, 51, Canton. After the collisions, the two vehicles were sent into the intersection. Dhall's vehicle overturned. The semi then went through the intersection and hit a 2007 Chevrolet Silverado, driven by Lewis Fisher, 55, Marengo.

Dixon and his passenger, Patricia Dixon, 71, Howell, Michigan were pronounced dead at the scene.

Dhall and Fisher were transported to area hospitals. Fisher's passenger, Sandra Whitley, 70, Ashley was transported by MedFlight to an area hospital.

Lee and his passenger, Bobby Macera, 48, Port Charlotte, Florida were treated and released at the scene.

Lee was taken into custody and charged with failure to stop within an assured clear distance ahead and two counts of vehicular homicide.

Alcohol is not believed to have been a factor in the crash.

Due to the crash, parts of the north and southbound lanes were closed, but have since reopened.
