Todd Boeckman and his two backups at quarterback, Antonio Henton and Joe Bauserman, eachcompleted a long pass that led to a touchdown as the Scarlet beat the Gray 20-7 Saturday in OhioState's annual spring intrasquad scrimmage.

Tailback Chris "Beanie" Wells, Brian Robiskie and several offensive linemen did not play in thegame because they were recovering from injuries.

The announced attendance was 76,346, but that appeared to be inflated on a gray and rainyday.

Ohio State officials were trying to set national record for attendance at both the men'slacrosse game and the spring football game that followed it at Ohio Stadium.

The lacrosse mark was 52,004 set at last year's national semifinals in Baltimore. Despite dryand warm weather in the morning, the attendance of 29,601 never came close to breaking thatrecord.

Shortly before the kickoff of the football game, it began to rain and it continued in bursts therest of the afternoon, eliminating any chance of approaching the 92,000 who attended Alabama's 2007spring game.

Boeckman had an up-and-down day, throwing interceptions to Kurt Coleman and Ross Homan, butsetting up his own 1-yard touchdown
plunge with a 48-yard completion to Brian Hartline. His Scarlet squad led 10-7 after AaronPettrey's 48-yard field goal on the final play of the half.

Henton directed the Scarlet offense after Boeckman's day ended.  Taking over at the Gray 30after a short punt, the Scarlet needed just seven plays to score. The key play was Henton's 32-yardcompletion to Ray Small on third-and-13, helping set up Dan "Boom" Herron's 1-yard touchdown runnear the end of the third quarter, expanding Scarlet's lead to 17-7.

One of the biggest bright spots was Bauserman, who is battling Henton (and, eventually, prizedincoming freshman Terrelle Pryor) for the backup spot behind Boeckman.

Bauserman made his first appearance late in the half and promptly led the Gray on an 81-yarddrive, completing all three of his passes including a 51-yard score to Taurian Washington, who hadslipped behind defender Nate Oliver near the goal line.

Mike Mattimoe added a late field goal for the Scarlet.
