Representatives with the Ohio Department of Transportation said a fire started by an overturn tanker truck has caused nearly $1 million in damages.

Because of that fire, there are sections of the bridge and ramp that will need to be replaced.  Here's what commuters should expect:

  • I-70 westbound lanes reopened Wednesday evening.
  • A crossover lane to allow traffic to travel eastbound on I-70 is expected to be constructed by Friday at noon.
  • As drivers travel past Hilliard Rome Road eastbound (before  270) they will cross over the median to the westbound side.  Once crossed over 270, drivers will then cross back over at Wilson Road to the normal configuration for eastbound traffic.

  • I-270 will remain open, but ODOT said drivers should anticipate major delays during morning commutes.  They recommend that drivers consider leaving an hour earlier than usual to avoid getting stuck in traffic along this area.
  • Other detours are planned, but have not yet been announced.  They will be updated on this page.
  • ODOT said they hope to have repairs on I-70 completed within 30 days. Some of the repair costs will come from state emergency funds.
