Retired WBNS Meteorologist Joe Holbrook Passes Away

A man who served as 10TV’s chief meteorologist for four decades has passed away at age 87.

Family members tell 10TV Joe Holbrook died Saturday morning at the Forum At Knightsbridge senior living center.

Holbrook came to WBNS-10TV in 1949 after working several years in the radio business in Portsmouth, Ohio.

In a 1992 article in the Columbus Dispatch, the Pike County native said he chose weather as his next career move because of his interest in flying.  “As a pilot, you learn a heck of a lot about weather. You can’t fool anybody about the weather when you’re flying,” Holbrooke said.

Holbrook kept 10TV viewer up-to-date on ever-changing weather of central Ohio until his retirement in 1989.

“Joe is one of the folks who made 10TV what it is today,” 10TV President and General Manager John Cardenas said of Holbrook in a 2000 Dispatch article.  “People around town care about him; they grew up with him. That's something you don't find at many other stations.”

Holbrook is survived by his wife, Wilma, and four children.
