An organization focused on offering a “fresh start” to low income families made a stop in Columbus, with hopes of relieving the financial burden associated with laundering clothing and linens.

For the last seven years, the Ohio Laundry Project has served thousands by covering laundry fees for families across the buckeye state.

“Clean laundry impacts things like education and employment,” Corey Easterday with the Clean Laundry Project said.

“We view ourselves as trying to help trying to help relieve a small financial burden for families that want to focus on paying the electric bill or buying groceries.”

Easterday said for many families that attend the event, a trip to the laundromat is a luxury, a choice that comes after paying for meals and child care.

To date, the Ohio Laundry Project has completed five visits to Columbus. In the last three visits to the capital city, nearly 1,300 loads of laundry for more than 100 families were completed free of cost.

“It’s been a big help,” Hilltop Laundromat visitor Michael Myers said.

“It was a pleasant surprise when I came in to do my laundry and they told me it was free.”
