Monday is the last day for Ohioans to register to vote in the general election

Monday is the last day for Ohioans to register to vote in the general election.

COLUMBUS, Ohio — The deadline for Ohioans to register to vote in the November general election has arrived.

Ohioans have until 11:59 p.m. Monday to vote in the presidential election on Nov. 5. Ohio has a 30-day voter registration requirement, but the deadline is extended to the next day if that falls on a weekend.

This year, voters will decide on the next U.S. president, a U.S. Senate race, a proposed constitutional amendment and several local bonds and levies.

Here’s how to register

Ohioans can register in person or online. There was also an mailing option, but the necessary voter registration form needed to be received or postmarked by the 30th day before an election they intend to vote in.

Online: Click here to be directed to the Ohio Secretary of State’s voter registration form.

In-person: You register to vote or update your registration at the following places:

  • The office of the Secretary of State;
  • The office of any of the 88 county boards of elections;
  • The office of the registrar or any deputy registrar of the Ohio Bureau of Motor Vehicles;
  • Public libraries;
  • Public high schools or vocational schools;
  • County treasurers' offices; or
  • Offices of designated agencies, including:
    • The Department of Job and Family Services;
    • The Department of Health (including the Women, Infants and Children (WIC) program);
    • The Department of Mental Health;
    • The Department of Developmental Disabilities;
    • Opportunities for Ohioans with Disabilities; or
    • The office of any state-assisted college or university responsible for providing assistance to students with disabilities.

According to Ohio law, each voter is required to sign the form.

Voters who have moved within Ohio or changed their name must update their form by submitting a new voter registration form. Once the update is completed successfully, the board of elections will update the registration and send a notice reflecting the voter’s new name and address.

For those unsure of their status, voter registration can be checked online here.
