COLUMBUS, Ohio — When Ohio voters cast their ballots, each person must consider the issues that are most important to them.
10TV spent time talking to early voters at the Franklin County Board of Elections on Thursday about what issues matter the most to them in the upcoming election.
The economy was one of those issues. Some voters said they think the economy is doing well right now.
“Overall, my understanding is jobs are being created. So there’s a lot of positive,” said Timothy Sample.
“I’m used to not having money and budgeting,” said Missy Gorman.
Others told 10TV they are very worried about the economy.
“Right now, it is suffering. I work in construction and I just see the level of work starting to drop. The prices go up at the grocery store,” said Arthur Gould.
Inflation is another factor on a lot of people’s minds.
“It’s definitely much higher now than what our social security is at 2.5%. It’s triple or quadruple that,” said Gould.
“I believe it will eventually go down. They are going down, I’m not worried about that,” said Ora Holmes.
“I am retired. But, the prices don’t affect me that much. It’s just me. If I had a husband or kids, the economy would affect me more,” said Gorman.
Both Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump have said they have plans to improve the economy.
But how much of an impact does the president have on the economy? Ohio State economics professor Bruce Weinberg said that it can be more tricky than people might think.
“A lot of the things we’re talking about in these plans are things the president cannot do unilaterally. These are things that have to go through Congress. We’ve seen getting things through Congress can be a little bit tricky these days,” said Weinberg.
