COLUMBUS, Ohio — According to new research from the Pew Research Center, the top issue bringing people to the poll is the state of the economy.
After that, the issues vary widely based on who the voter is backing for the White House.
The research found that other major issues for supporters of former President Donald Trump were immigration and violent crime.
Supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris reported health care and supreme court appointments as theirs.
10TV wanted to check in with two groups to see what issues were top of mind for them.
Young voters at The Ohio State University found that a hot topic for this year's election was reproductive rights.
"Women's rights in general and reproductive rights are the main things I'm looking at this election. Because I feel like it's something so crucial right now,” said OSU student Ellie White.
Affirmative action and the Israel-Palestine conflict were also mentioned.
But another issue that proved to be popular was their perceptions of each candidate's morals.
"I would say one big factor for me is [the] overall character of candidates. I feel like a person's character speaks a lot and what they would do in a position of power,” said OSU student Joy Obiri.
"For me, a big thing is making sure that the person we put in office is a good representation of what we as a country look for and represent,” said OSU student Ryona Gilmore.
Across town, we checked in with a local barber mixing haircuts and civic education by talking politics with clients and even registering them to vote.
Al Edmonson said a hot topic for his mostly Black male clientele is connected to finding balanced and accurate information on each candidate.
The second hot topic for his clients revolves around money.
"Then there are those too that say, 'I'm in this higher tax bracket.' But what about your cousins? What about you, your sisters, your relatives, they're not there. But, you know, you're gonna just vote for somebody because they give you a tax break?" said Edmonson.
