Franklin County early voting numbers expected to break record

Saturday and Sunday are the last days residents can vote early in Ohio before Election Day.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ohio — According to the Franklin County Board of Elections, early voting numbers are expected to break records this year.

Aaron Sellers, public information officer for the Franklin County Board of Elections, said about 140,000 people have voted early so far.

"We did 117,000 in 2020 so we're easily going to break that probably tomorrow, and that's been a record for Franklin County,” Sellers said.

Sellers said the Board of Elections manages every aspect of their responsibilities in a bipartisan way.

"There are some things that we may not do well in Ohio, but I think certainly we do run elections well in this state. There's rooms in our office that if you don't have a Republican access key and a Democrat key to entire those buildings at the same time, you can't get into those rooms,” Sellers said.

Some voters at the Franklin County Board of Elections shared why voting is so important to them.

"There's something really exciting about being part of a big movement and making decisions about what the future looks like,” Rose Tyler said.

"My ancestors didn't get the chance to do it, so I feel like it's just important for me to exercise the right,” Eric Brown said.

For people who are eager to hear the results, Sellers said voters should find out sooner rather than later.

"You'll know late election night or early the next day who won Ohio. There's no question about that,” Sellers said.

Saturday and Sunday are the last days residents can vote early in Ohio before Election Day.

The Franklin County Board of Elections is open 8 a.m. – 4 p.m. on Saturday and 1 p.m. – 5 p.m. on Sunday.
