An 88-year-old old man who had been missing since Monday morning was found dead late Tuesdaynight on the city's east side, police said.

John Brown's body was discovered face down between a house and boat on Proctor Drive, about a block away from where he was last seen, 10TV's Lindsey Seavert reported.

Police, residents and search teams spent the day searching the neighborhood for Brown, whosuffered from Alzheimer's disease and was last seen at about 6 a.m. Monday near his home on ManolaDrive.

Authorities said earlier on Tuesday  that they were hopeful of finding Brown alive, but they also realized time was running short.  The Alzheimer's Association said studies show24 hours after a patient wanders from home their chance for survival is cut in half.

"You know, to be a realist, let's hope for the best but be prepared for the worst," saidColumbus Police Sgt. Jerry Cupp. "This one may not end up good."
