Police ID Children In Mini-Motor Bike Crash That Killed 2-Year-Old

Investigators are releasing new information about a deadly crash last night that killed a 2-year-old and left two other children hurt. Get details.

Investigators said that the children involved in a deadly Wednesday night crash were not supposed to be on the road.

According to police, 11-year-old Kaleb Campbel , 9-year-old Gabryale Campbel and 2-year-old Deandre Pruitt, were riding on a red Baja 97cc motorized bike along Taylor Avenue near East Fourth Avenue when they emerged from an alley and were struck by a 1997 Dodge Dakota at about 7:40 p.m.

The children were transported to Nationwide Children's Hospital, where Pruitt died and Gabryale Campbel was being treated for critical injuries, 10TV News reported. Investigators said that Kaleb Campel, who was driving the bike, suffered serious injuries in the crash.

"At no point are they allowed to be on the roadway," said Columbus police Sgt. Rich Weiner. "They are not licensed. It does not matter how old you are, you have to be licensed to ride a motorized vehicle."

Weiner said that police would continue to investigate the crash.

"Right now, we're focusing on the crash investigation," Weiner said. "Down the road, the question is going to be asked how they came to be on the (mini-motor bike)."

A neighbor said that he has seen the children on the mini-motor bike before.

The driver of the vehicle, Gerald Parker, stopped at the scene and was not injured in the crash. Parker, 51, will not be charged, police said.
